The One Big Beautiful Bill Act repealed the federal clean vehicle credits early. The $7,500 new-EV credit, the $4,000 used-EV credit, and the commercial/lease credit are not available for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. The 30% home charger credit ended for equipment placed in service after June 30, 2026. State rebates, utility programs, and manufacturer cash are now the main ways to save on an EV.

Federal Guidance:
Car Loan Interest Deduction:
| State | Program | How It Pays | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| CO | Colorado EV Tax Credit | State income tax credit | Amount steps down on a published schedule each year, with extra support for lower-priced EVs. |
| NY | Drive Clean Rebate | Point-of-sale rebate | Applied by participating dealers at purchase; the amount scales with the vehicle's electric range. |
| IL | Illinois EV Rebate | Application-based rebate | Released in funded rounds that close when money runs out; low-income applicants are prioritized. |
| MA | MOR-EV | Post-purchase rebate | Standard rebate plus an additional adder for income-qualified applicants. |
| NJ | Charge Up New Jersey | Point-of-sale incentive | Funding is limited and released in rounds. New Jersey is also phasing in sales tax on EV purchases. |
| CA | Clean Cars 4 All / regional programs | Income-qualified scrap-and-replace | The statewide CVRP closed to new applications in 2023. What remains is income-qualified and administered by regional air districts, so amounts vary by where you live. |
We deliberately don't publish dollar amounts here. State rebates change between funding rounds, income tiers, and legislative sessions, and a stale figure is worse than none when you're budgeting. Yes, within limits. For tax years 2025–2028 you can deduct up to $10,000 per year of interest on a new personal-use vehicle loan with US final assembly, even without itemizing. It phases out above $100,000 income ($200,000 married filing jointly). Leases don’t qualify.
State rebates (roughly $1,500–$4,000 in states like NY, NJ, IL, MA, and CO), utility rebates for home chargers and off-peak rates, and manufacturer cash. Several automakers raised their own incentives after the federal credit disappeared.
Manufacturers offer rebates, low APR, or lease deals to move inventory. They can be national or regional and change monthly. Incentives usually apply to the purchase price or financing, and often can’t be combined.
Check the manufacturer’s website, dealer sites, and our incentives page. Incentives vary by model, trim, and region. Combine with negotiating the selling price for the best deal.
